A selection of Arie Caspi columns written between 1986 and 2003 and published originally in the weekly Koteret Rashit and the daily Ha'aretz. Caspi wrote first and foremost about society and economy, fighting a stubborn and well reasoned battle against the demise of the welfare state and its privatization.

He criticized forcefully the failures and the injustice of the neo-liberal economic ideology, but also wrote about political, military and religious issues. His original thought and firm world view, though never dogmatic, gained his writing a wide influence, and to many of his readers he served as a compass and guide.

This selection reflects his style, simple and accurate, as well as the range of the issues about which he wrote with intellectual integrity and moral force..

Arie Caspi was born in 1945 in Bat-Yam. He studied philosophy and psychology at the Hebrew University and later management at the Haifa Technion. He quit his work in an electronics plant and went on to direct community centers and other social projects. He started to write in the 80's in various newspapers and did so till his death in 2003.
